hacktress candice bergen thinks we all have amnesia

 the emmys?

i'm just not in the mood for fake assery.  such as this:

That language is as intentional as the selection of Candice Bergen to present for best actress in a comedy. Bergen does not have a show to promote in this new season. Instead, the “Murphy Brown” star was there to remind us of when, in 1992, Vice President Dan Quayle criticized the show for featuring an arc when Murphy became pregnant and decided to raise the baby as a single mother.

“Oh, how far we’ve come. Today a Republican candidate for vice president would never attack a woman for having kids, so as they say, my work here is done,” she said wryly, adding, “Meow.”

am i supposed to applaud her for that?

i applauded diane english - creator of the series - in real time at the 1992 emmys.  only to then have candy bergs say dan was right.

do we not remember that?

i bet the fat ass wishes we didn't remember it, but i do.  it was a stab in the back to so many people. from wikipedia:

In the show's 1991–92 season, Murphy became pregnant. When her baby's father (ex-husband and current underground radical Jake Lowenstein) expressed his unwillingness to give up his own lifestyle to be a parent, Murphy chose to have the child and raise it alone. Another major fiction-reality blending came at Murphy's baby shower: the invited guests were journalists Katie CouricJoan LundenPaula ZahnMary Alice Williams and Faith Daniels, who treated the fictional Murphy and Corky as friends and peers.

At the point where she was about to give birth, she had stated that "several people do not want me to have the baby. Pat RobertsonPhyllis Schlafly; half of Utah!" Right after giving birth to her son Avery, Murphy sang the song "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman". This storyline made the show a subject of political controversy during the 1992 American presidential campaign. On May 19, 1992, Vice President Dan Quayle spoke at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco. During his speech,[22] he criticized the Murphy Brown character for "mocking the importance of fathers by bearing a child alone".[23][24][25][26]

Quayle's remarks caused a public discussion on family values, culminating in the 1992–93 season premiere, "You Say Potatoe, I Say Potato", where the television characters reacted to Quayle's comments and produced a special episode of FYI showcasing and celebrating the diversity of the modern American family. Because Quayle's actual speech made little reference to Murphy Brown's fictional nature (other than the use of the word character), the show was able to use actual footage from his speech to make it appear that, within the fictional world of the show, Quayle was referring to Murphy Brown personally, rather than to the fictional character. At the end, Brown helps organize a special edition of FYI focusing on different kinds of families, then arranges a retaliatory prank in which a truckload of potatoes is dumped in front of Quayle's residence while a disc jockey playfully commenting on the incident notes the Vice President should be glad people were not making fun of him for misspelling "fertilizer". This referenced how, on June 15, 1992, at a spelling bee in Trenton, New Jersey, Quayle had erroneously corrected an elementary-school student's spelling of "potato" to "potatoe". The cue card used by the teacher read "potatoe". When Candice Bergen won another Emmy that year, she thanked Dan Quayle. The feud was cited by E! as #81 on its list of "101 Reasons the '90s Ruled".[27]

In 2002, Bergen said in an interview that she personally agreed with much of Quayle's speech, calling it "a perfectly intelligent speech about fathers not being dispensable" and adding that "nobody agreed with that more than I did."[28]

In 1988, she created the CBS television series Murphy Brown, for which she won three Emmy Awards (one for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series and two for Outstanding Comedy Series).[10][11][12][13] The series ran from 1988 to 1998 for a total of 247 episodes. It garnered 18 Emmy wins from 62 nominations.[5] In 1992, English stirred up controversy when the title character decided to have a child out of wedlock. Vice president Dan Quayle gave a speech entitled "Reflections on Urban America to the Commonwealth Club of California" on the subject of the Los Angeles riots. In this speech, Quayle blamed the violence on a decay of moral values and family structure in American society. In an aside, he cited the title character in the television program Murphy Brown as an example of how popular culture contributes to this "poverty of values", saying, "It doesn't help matters when prime time TV has Murphy Brown – a character who supposedly epitomizes today's intelligent, highly paid, professional woman – mocking the importance of fathers, by bearing a child alone, and calling it just another 'lifestyle choice'.[14]

English responded with a statement that read: "If the vice president thinks it's disgraceful for an unmarried woman to bear children (out of wedlock), and if he believes that a woman cannot adequately raise a child without a father, then he'd better make sure abortion remains safe and legal." In 2002, Candice Bergen, the actress who played Brown, said "I never have really said much about the whole episode, which was endless, but his speech was a perfectly intelligent speech about fathers not being dispensable and nobody agreed with that more than I did." This controversy along with the shifting times of that decade touched off a debate over the meaning of "family values" of Americans during that election year in which Bill Clinton and Al Gore ran against George H. W. Bush and Dan Quayle.[citation needed]

candice stabbed a lot of people in the back with her defense of dan quayle.  i'm not going to pretend it didn't happen or that candice is somehow brave.

stupid, stupid woman.  and a hack actress.

let's close with c.i.'s 'Iraq snapshot:'

Monday, September 16, 2024.  A 'left' group announces their intent to be a spoiler -- their actual intent to get Donald Trump back in the White House -- promoting us -- forcing us? -- to review basic first principles.

49 days until the US presidential election.  THE WASHINGTON POST has published an important tool that you can utilize to make sure you are still registered to vote.  Very important this year with a record number of people being purged from the rolls.  If that happened to you, you may or may  not know.

Your vote is your vote.  No one owns it.

If you choose not to vote, that's your choice.

Jill Stein freaks are offended -- including one columnist who e-mailed to share that I've never been so harsh on third party candidates.

I'm not harsh on third party candidates.  I have not said a word against Cornel West, Chase Oliver or Claudia De La Cruz.  They're valid candidates.

My problems with Jill Stein are not new.   November 7, 2012, in a piece here written with Ava, I made clear that I had bit my tongue for her and would, never ever do so again.  She's is not a real candidate.  She's a vanity candidate.   She's an idiot who is on her third run for president of the United States and, as we learned last week, doesn't even know how many people are in the House of Representatives (435 -- not over 600 as she answered).  She is an idiot.  And a third party does not grow by nominating the same person to run for president three times -- especially now that she's 74.  That's not how you grow a party.

You vote for who you want has been the motto here.

"The Gaza Freaks."

There are many Americans who support the rights of Palestinians -- that's more than a cease-fire, that's the right to co-exist, that's the right to self-rule -- concepts that The Gaza Freaks aren't up to popularizing because, honestly, they're too damn stupid.

The Gaza Freaks pick up Gaza for a moment or two, have a purity march or two and then go home for two or three years until Gaza's back in the news.  That's how, for example, you have Iraq as the focus with your organization fasting (or 'fasting') in DC and your fundraising for your trip to Iraq to meet with Iraqi leaders to talk peace only to immediately drop those actions because something else is in the news.

The Gaza Freaks are not going to save Palestinians and won't even be pushing on the issue when something else is in the news.

But for now, they pretend to care passionately and pretend to be outraged over it.

If you really were outraged over it, you'd be doing whatever you can to try to end it.

Donald Trump is not going to end it.  Ted Glick (ZNET) notes:

What are the likely consequences for Palestinians of Donald Trump winning?

Trump is Netanyahu’s, guy, and the MAGA Republicans are his US party. It was the Republican controlled House leadership which invited this war criminal to speak to Congress in late July. There are no Republican Congresspeople who have come out in support of a ceasefire. It was during Trump’s Presidency that the US Embassy was moved to Jerusalem. In a Reuters article on August 15th Trump is quoted as saying, “From the start, Harris has worked to tie Israel’s hand behind its back, demanding an immediate ceasefire, always demanding ceasefire,” Trump said, adding it “would only give Hamas time to regroup and launch a new October 7 style attack.”

A Trump victory will strengthen the hand of Netanyahu and his now-unpopular government, give a green light to settler and IDF violence in the West Bank and advance their explicitly racist and colonialist agenda of extending the state of Israel “from the river to the sea,” as they say.

If Harris wins, there is a basis to continue to pressure her and Democrats to make real their explicit verbal support for a ceasefire and an end to the war on Gaza by cutting off military aid, if the on-going pressure from below doesn’t achieve a ceasefire before election day. A Harris victory would allow the Free Palestine movement to build upon the massive progressive and liberal energy unleashed by her campaign and enlist additional numbers behind the demands for not just a ceasefire, the release of Israel hostages and Palestinian prisoners and massive humanitarian aid to Gaza, but also for a serious commitment to moving the ball forward as far as Palestinian self-determination. Harris has spoken a number of times in support of “Palestinian self-determination.”

In my view, bringing that self-determination demand forward, and giving it real content, would mean that there must be a Palestine-wide election to choose government leaders, not the imposition of the corrupt and unpopular Palestine Authority or any other scheme where Palestinians are unable to vote for who they want. And it seems to me that relatively soon, there should be a Palestine-wide referendum on what kind of new arrangement they support, whether a two-state solution, and what that would mean, how that would be done in a way which empowers them, or something else.

That's reality.

And if you can't tolerate voting for Kamala you might not be one of The Gaza Freaks.  There are people who ran for office that I did not vote for because of the Iraq War.  I could not vote for them.  If that's you, I understand.

But, please note, that's different than The Gaza Freaks.

From Ava and my "Media: Hard Truths and Soft Media:"

On Saturday's KPFA EVENING NEWS, Jill Stein groupie Ann Garrison thought she'd woo and win voters over to Jill Stein and stupidity via an interview with Hassan Abdel Salam of the Abandon Harris Movement -- a group working "to defeat Kamala Harris in battleground states."  If you're wondering if the slow witted group grasps that this would mean electing Donald Trump, yes, they do grasp that.

Ann Garrison:  So you're looking to win a moral victory by costing the Democrats the election or helping to do so?

Hassan Abdel Salam:  Absolutely.

He then offers delusions about how this is "the only way the political establishment, the Democratic Party, will listen to us is if they too encounter the very thing they fear the most a defeat on November 5th."

No, that's not what's going to happen.  If you nut jobs re-elect Donald Trump, you're going to find the majority of Americans no longer give a s**t about your cause.

You re-elect Donald Trump and you're going to find yourself on a no-man's island.

We have spent years here talking about how your vote is your vote and how a third party vote is not a spoiler vote.  Yet there's the spokesperson for the Abandon Harris group stating that they will be voting as a spoiler -- they will be voting intentionally (for Jill Stein, they'll announce that this week) to put Donald Trump back into the White House.

They are now declared spoilers and should be treated accordingly.

They are now the enemy of democracy.  They want to re-elect Donald Trump.  Four years of hell wasn't enough for them.

Donald Trump's attempted coup was not enough for them.

The death of ROE V WADE was not enough for them.

The corrupt Supreme Court turning back the clock on racial equality was not enough for them.

The Supreme Court creating a second-class citizenship for LGBTQ+ Americans was not enough for them.

Out continued presences on this earth is not enough for them -- make no mistake, climate change is going to get a lot worse if Donald Trump and JD Vance 'free up' corporations from basic safety rules that protect people and the planet.

Instead of realizing that reality and recognizing it, you want to use your minor foothold to encourage people to put Donald Trump back in the White House?

You're not our friend.  You are an enemy to democracy.

You might by having a hissy fit right now and be unable to process rationally.  Or this might be your suicide mission.  But grasp that no one else wants to go to Jonestown with you.

Ava and I end our piece with this:

Destruction can come from all over.  For example, the Jill Stein supporter who took pornographic photos of their own children?  We can help with the destruction of The Gaza Freaks by outing them on things like this.  Is that really what you want us to do?

Because we're trying to be kind.  And if we're struggling with kindness, you damn well better believe that a lot of other people are as well.  So think very clearly in this moment.  Your continued attacks on Kamala Harris are not going to help the Palestinian people.  But they do send a message to the rest of us about what freaks you are and how you don't care one bit about racial justice in the US, about climate change, about the kid who was raped by her father and will be forced to give birth, about anything.  Because, one more time, you don't even care about the Palestinians if you're working to put Donald Trump back into the White House.

And that bothered a few e-mailers this morning too.  How cruel!  How libelous!  It's a libel if it's true?  And that actually, the tidbit about the Stein supporter engaged in pornographic photos of their own children was in several snapshots last week but pulled before posted.  Friday morning, while speaking to a group about the importance of this election, I thought it had gone up.  Usually, I say, "Push that all the way to the end."  Then before it posts, I say, "Go ahead and pull it."

I hadn't said that.  The person I dictated it to knew to pull it.  But before I knew it was pulled, I just shrugged and said, "They brought it on themselves."

But in terms of libel?  No.  It's not libel.  We had a mutual friend.  The friend wrote about it, it's in a book.  I immediately called him and said, "You're talking about _______ and _____!"  And he was.  And if we need to go further, we can go further.  I'm not going to be sued for libel -- it's very obvious, based on what was written and who the author's friends were, who the not-so-blind item is about.

My point here is The Gaza Freaks have a lot of secrets and there are a lot of us who are getting ticked off and might start exposing them -- will.  Will start exposing them if they put Trump back in the White House.

The Gaza Freaks think that defeating Kamala Harris means the Democrats will listen to them in the next election cycle.  That presumes that we'll have more elections and that we'll survive a second term of Donald Trump.  Ken Paxton and Greg Asshole are invading the homes of Latino Americans for the 'crimes' of voter registration.  Ron DeSantis is sicking his goon squad on people in Florida who signed a petition.

It also ignores history.

Unlike Jill Stein, Ralph Nader was a real candidate.  In 2000, he got the most votes any Green Party candidate ever has.  That did not push the Democratic Party further to the left.  It did not change anything except Ralph's own standing.  He did a lot of great work over the years and started a lot of organizations.  That no longer mattered.  People were angry because Bully Boy Bush got in the White House and we had the Iraq War.

The Greens realized that and disowned Ralph and implemented their 2004 safe state strategy in an attempt to turn the clock back.

Your little stunt to get Donald in the White House will not help you push the Democratic Party.

Israel is apartheid.  Jimmy Carter said it years ago and he was right.  I'm someone who was an activist against apartheid.  Apartheid did not end in one year.  It took years and years to move the needle on it in the United States.

There is no quick fix for the Palestinians.  If that's hard for you to hear it's only because the people you've been listening to have been lying.  With actual activism, you're either in it for the long haul or you're not doing activism.

Jane Fonda's done a lifetime of activism.

Let's wind down with this press release:

CIVIL RIGHTS LEGEND MYRLIE EVERS ENDORSES KAMALA HARRIS FOR PRESIDENT

“HARRIS EMBODIES WHAT MEDGAR EVERS FOUGHT AND DIED FOR”

Jackson, MS — Myrlie Evers, civil rights leader, first female chairman of the NAACP, author, activists and widow of civil rights icon Medgar Evertoday announced her endorsement of Kamala Harris for President in a new video, citing her commitment to justice, equality, and the ongoing fight for civil rights.

“Kamala Harris embodies the values that my husband Medgar Evers dedicated his life to—justice, equality, and the belief that America can and should be better,” says Myrlie Evers. “Her vision for this country aligns with the ideals Medgar fought for, and that’s why I am proud to endorse her for President. As a senator, she held the Trump administration accountable and will continue to fight those who attempt to undermine our Constitution and American values.”

Medgar Evers, a prominent civil rights activist and field secretary for the NAACP, was assassinated in 1963 for his tireless work to dismantle segregation and discrimination in the United States. His legacy continues to inspire generations of activists and leaders, and the Evers family believes Kamala Harris is the right leader to carry that legacy forward.

“In these times of both opportunity and adversity, it is vital to have leaders who are not only capable but also compassionate and courageous. Kamala Harris’s vision for a more fair and just society aligns with the values that my parents have long championed. Her dedication to improving the lives of all Americans and her ability to inspire positive change are testaments to her exceptional leadership. She does all this as a joyful warrior and a voice for courage and justice,” added Myrlie Evers.

Emphasizing Harris’s dedication to civil rights and her ability to lead with courage and compassion, Reena Evers-Everette, daughter of Medgar and Myrlie Evers said, “Kamala Harris continues in the footsteps of strong Black women, including her mentor Shirley Chisholm, Barbara Jordan, and my mother Myrlie Evers. These women committed themselves to helping their communities thrive and grow. Kamala Harris honors my parents’ lifelong dedication to justice and equality by fighting for all Americans to have affordable housing, fair wages, and the right to vote. Her vision for a more fair and just society aligns with the values that my parents have long championed.”

Earlier this year, Medgar Evers was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, in recognition of his trailblazing contributions to the civil rights movement.

“At a time when hard-won rights are under siege, Kamala Harris is the leader we need to defend our progress and drive the fight for justice forward. We can’t go back,” added Reena Evers-Everette.

dumb ass jill stein

mike does 'idiot of the week' each week and i checked to make sure he wasn't picking jill stein this weekend.  he said to grab her.  his 'Idiot of the week' is up and read it to see who he picked.

but jill stein is f**king dumb ass.

jill stein is running for president for the 3rd time and she still doesn't know - at 74 - how many members are in the house of representatives?

what a dumb ass.

t said every 1 was talking about it at her beauty shop.  how could she run for president even once without knowing how many members were in the house?  435.

in the same interview, the idiot said she could win the election this year.

dumb ass.

in her 1st run she got less than 500,000 votes, in her 2nd run for president, she got less than 1.5 million votes.  joe biden got over 81 million votes in 2020.

but jill's going to be president this go round?

what a dumb ass.

all she's going to do is help donald trump's campaign.  she's a grifter and that's all she's ever been and ever can be.

a grifter who refuses to ever take accountability.

accountability?   that could be the dnc's party slogan: 'restore accountability, vote for harris-walz.'  i'm reminded of that due to sean o'driscoll's newsweek report:

Steve Bannon should not be given early release from federal prison, prosecutors have told a judge.

The filing, by federal prosecutor Matthew Graves, before a Washington, D.C judge, sharply criticizes Bannon for claiming that a circuit appeal court's delay in deciding whether to take Bannon's case was an indication that it had substantial merit.

In a filing on Thursday before the Washington federal district court, Graves said that the real reason for the delay is likely that the circuit appeal court is overworked after the summer break.

He accused Bannon of trying to "read tea leaves" on the appeal court's inner working without any real proof of the court's intentions.

"The fact that the D.C. Circuit has not yet decided the defendant's petition for rehearing en banc does not establish that the defendant's appeal now presents a 'substantial question,' Graves wrote.

he could have been tried for treason but instead got only - only! - 4 months in prison.  he started serving his sentence on july 1st.  that means he has served 2 months and 12 days.  we are looking at 48 more days.  the little princess can handle that.

i can't believe the cry baby.

he clearly has no life and no brains.

and no friends.

what is it about some old men that makes them think their hair looks good when it doesn't?

his hair is so ratty.  the color's awful.  he could get it cut short on the sides, for example, and trimmed in the back and it wouldn't be so bad.  he should really get it cut all over.  but if he favors long hair, just keep the top long.  wide, unruly hair on the sides just makes people look fatter.

if he had a real friend, they would have told him that long ago but, clearly, steve bannon has no friends.

and, honestly, does that surprise you or anyone else?

let's close with c.i.'s 'Iraq snapshot:'

Friday, September 13, 2024.  The week winds down with enthusiasm continuing to build for Kamala Harris.

52 days until the US presidential election and let's start off today with a good laugh.

Jill Stein is an idiot.  That doesn't surprise me.  That she is Dan Quayle level stupid?  Okay, that surprised me.

Asked how many people are in the House of Representatives, she responds,  "What is it?  600?"

No, it's 435.  It's been that way every year of Jill's74-year-old life.  (It goes back further than her but her whole life it's been 435.)  She's ran for president three times now and she doesn't know 435?

What an idiot.  Let's get her to try to spell potato next.

I especially enjoyed when Angela Rye pointing out how Jill is forever robbing women of color of their own agency.  Angela put the ultimate Karen in check.

We can come back to Jill but we all needed a laugh to start the morning.

Let's move on over to another con artist, the shrinking Junior who wanted to be on the ballots and then he didn't.  Mark Joseph Stern (SLATE) reports:

The North Carolina Supreme Court tossed a grenade into the state’s election on Monday, violating both state and federal law to grant Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s cynical, last-minute removal from the ballot. Its 4–3 decision will compel election administrators to destroy nearly 3 million already-printed ballots that featured Kennedy’s name and redesign 2,348 different ballot styles across the state to accommodate the eleventh-hour change. This complex process will significantly delay the distribution of new ballots—which will, in turn, unlawfully abridge early voting for everyone while jeopardizing the voting rights of service members overseas in clear contradiction of federal statute. It’s a nightmare for local election officials, who must now disregard the laws they’re sworn to uphold. And it’s an affront to North Carolinians at large, whose right to a fair, orderly election has been sabotaged by a lawless court and the candidate it so obviously favors.

Some people are surprised by how brief Junior's presidential campaign was, how quickly it ended.  Those people apparently never spoke to any woman Junior slept with -- he's long been known as "One Thrust Bobby" for a reason.

He had a hissy fit to get on the ballot and then, after Donald Trump agreed to give him a post in a future administration, Junior has a hissy fit to get off the ballot.

With either contradictory position,  please note, he insisted he was about the rule of law.

He was never about anything but himself.  He's a lying hypocrite.

Now he's out there campaigning for Convicted Felon Donald Trump.  And joining him on the road, Trashy Garbage aka Tulsi Gabbard.

Now we've made rude remarks about Tulsi and we've called her out but we do need to give her some praise.  Trina explained why we needed to thank Tulsi in "Siri Daly's Garbage Cookies in the Kitchen:"

How about that debate?

After the debate, Tim Miller of The Bulwark caught up with Graham, who offered his assessment.

“Just spoke with Lindsey Graham in the spin room,” Miller reported. “[H]e said the debate team should be fired and Trump was unprepared. ‘[D]isaster'”

Thank you, Trashy Garbage.

We all remember, right, Tulsi Gabbard rushing around bragging to the media that she was Donald's debate coach and bragging about herself and pretending that she had defeated Kamala in one of the few debates that Trashy Tulsi Garbage Gabbard participated in.

So, thank you, Trashy.

Your 'expertise' and 'advice' ensured that Trump lost the debate.  Poor Trashy, she killed her own Congressional career, she never got out of the gate trying to be a presidential candidate, she's more and more of a joke each day.  Grifting doesn't always pay and it certainly hasn't for Tulsi.  Maybe Guru Chris can get the cult to kiss her boo-boo and make it better?

Remember garbage cookies -- good.  Trashy Garbage -- evil grifter.

Tulsi Gabbard, the thing we all scrape off the bottom of our shoes.  Tulsi Gabbard, the liar who claimed to have ended Kamala's career back in August of 2020.  Since then?  Tulsi's no longer in Congress.  Kamala's Vice President.  Since then?  Tulsi can't even get a right-wing outlet to give her a program of her own.  Kamala's running for president.  Karma ran over Tulsi then threw it in reverse and backed over her as well.

She better watch out Saturday in Glendale campaigning with Junior.  Remember, kids, he likes to toss roadkill in his car and dump it in Central Park.

Let's take a moment at week's end to celebrate the big news -- "Kamala destroys Donald (Ava and C.I.)" -- because Kamala didn't just win that debate, she overwhelmingly won that debate.  She destroyed him.  This was a debate that will be talked about for years.

And in case you're not getting how big her victory was, Robert Tait (GUARDIAN) reports:

Kamala Harris embarked on a drive to exploit her strong debate performance on Thursday, as the Democratic presidential nominee’s campaign pledged to intensify efforts to persuade voters in battleground states deemed essential to winning the White House.

Meanwhile, her opponent, Donald Trump – whose debate performance has been criticized even by some of his supporters – said that he would refuse to debate Harris again. “There will be no third debate,” he said in an angrily worded post on his Truth Social social media platform.

Let's note Bernd Debusmann Jr (BBC NEWS) to make sure that point soaks in, "Donald Trump has ruled out another presidential debate against his rival Kamala Harris before November's election."

And he's lying and saying he won.

You know what's worse though?

If he's not lying.

If he truly believes he won when he so clearly lost.  If he really isn't lying and thinks he won, how could you vote for someone that deluded and out of touch with reality?

As reported last week, Donald's having to cut back and close campaigning in some states; however, Ed O'Keefe (CBS NEWS) reports:

Vice President Kamala Harris continues to build out a national presidential campaign, but is also staffing up at the White House amid a crush of press inquiries in the wake of her unexpected presidential bid.

Her office is bringing on Nate Evans, a veteran of her short-lived 2020 presidential campaign, as a senior communications adviser. He is on detail from his most recent post as principal senior adviser for strategy and communications for Linda Thomas-Greenfield, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Before his time with the U.S. mission at the U.N., he was a deputy chief of staff for Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota and served on Harris' 2020 campaign as head of rapid response and as New Hampshire communications director.

Kirsten Allen, Harris' communications director, and Ernie Apreza, her press secretary, will remain in their roles at the White House.

A growing press and communications team continues to build out at campaign headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware, led by communications director Michael Tyler and Brian Fallon, a senior communications adviser to Harris who is most notably responsible for crafting her daily message and negotiating with television networks about presidential debates and interview requests.

And Natasha Korecki (NBC NEWS) reports:

Riding high on momentum two days after the presidential debate, Vice President Kamala Harris was greeted by a deafening crowd here Thursday, eager to see the Democratic nominee push to the next phase of her campaign.

Harris told supporters it was time to turn the page from Donald Trump while again challenging the former president to a second debate, which she did earlier in the day at her rally in Charlotte.

“We owe it to the voters. Because here’s the thing: In this election, what’s at stake could not be more important,” she said.

Kamala at the debate was incredible.  Marcia notes:

Video.

My grandmother asked me to note that video.  She is so excited about Kamala Harris becoming president, she makes me look like a sour puss.

And that just started this week.  After the debate.  She was supporting Kamala but didn't feel like she could breathe, as she told me tonight on the phone, until after the debate.  Not even when it was obvious Kamala was winning.  She had to wait until after the debate was over.

She's breathing now and allowing herself to hope and imagine Kamala as president.

She's fixed income but she signed up for weekly campaign donations on Wednesday.

I know the media is so disappointing -- especially our so-called 'left' media like Common Dreams -- but people are excited by Kamala.  And our number is growing.  And will continue to grow.

And I'm seeing that in the groups we're speaking to as well.  People are excited by this campaign, they're excited by Kamala as US president.  But somehow 'left' media struggles to convey reality.  As Betty noted last night:

This is garbage.  Their actions are going to re-elect Trump.

And isn't it interesting how a Black woman is targeted with all this crap from the left to begin with.

As a Black woman, I'm fully aware that my group is the group of voters that repeatedly save the Democratic Party's ass.  And this is the thank you we get back?

I'm not asking them to kiss her ass, I'm just asking them to be fair.  Trump's a threat to our very democracy and demonstrated that on January 6, 2021.

And yet, according to COMMON DREAMS, Kamala must jump through this hoop and that hoop before she can have our support.

That is so much bulls**t.

And Stan observed:

You have an election in 53 days and 'left' media online is attacking Kamala Harris. As though she was a Republican, they are attacking her.

The Black community has been a huge and dependable block of voters for the Democratic Party and that's even more true of Black women.  So the Black community is getting very ticked off that we're seeing Democratic Party sites and left sites knocking Kamala.

Is she not good enough for you?

This is the party, remember, that put Joe Lieberman on the ticket in 2000.

So I'm not understanding why Kamala is a problem.

Except for the fact that the White left sites and writers and podcasters think they can s**t on a Black woman.

Is that your intent?

I have no idea.  I only know that in my entire adult life, I've never seen anything like this.

The enthusiasm is there even if our 'left' sites can't be bothered to cover it.  Need further proof?  Rebecca Falconer (AXIOS) notes:

Vice President Kamala Harris raised $47 million in the 24 hours following her debate against former President Trump, her campaign announced on Thursday.

Why it matters: It's Harris' biggest 24-hour fundraising haul since she raised $81 million after she replaced President Biden as Democrats' presidential candidate in July, per the New York Times, which first reported the news.

  • The haul that included donations from 600,000 individuals is the latest boost for Harris, who's locked in a virtual dead heat with Trump in most swing states, according to multiple national polls.
  • The fundraising haul comes after her campaign raked in $361 million in August compared Trump's $130 million raised for that month.

What they're saying: "While our fundraising program continues to show historic strength, this momentum cannot be taken for granted," said Harris campaign chair Jen O'Malley Dillon in a statement to media.

  • "We cannot underestimate the strength of Team Trump and their strong fundraising and organizing efforts intentionally designed to divide and sow doubt among Americans. We cannot let up until we defeat Trump once and for all this November."

It was an incredible debate.

Registered voters who watched Tuesday’s presidential debate broadly agree that Kamala Harris outperformed Donald Trump, according to a CNN poll of debate watchers conducted by SSRS. The vice president also outpaced both debate watchers’ expectations for her and Joe Biden’s onstage performance against the former president earlier this year, the poll found.

Debate watchers said, 63% to 37%, that Harris turned in a better performance onstage in Philadelphia. Prior to the debate, the same voters were evenly split on which candidate would perform more strongly, with 50% saying Harris would do so and 50% that Trump would. And afterward, 96% of Harris supporters who tuned in said that their chosen candidate had done a better job, while a smaller 69% majority of Trump’s supporters credited him with having a better night.

There is a schism between what's happening before our own eyes and what's getting 'covered' at COMMON DREAMS, etc.  Trina went historical last night to explain how sad but not surprising this is:

If you missed it, Trump is yet again insisting that he will go after political rivals if he gets back into the White House.  Aysha Bagchi (USA Today) reports:

For instance, according to the Mueller report, Trump's first attorney general, Jeff Sessions, told federal prosecutors Trump asked him to reverse his decision to recuse himself from presidential campaign-related investigations and direct the Justice Department to investigate and prosecute Hillary Clinton around the summer of 2017.

In the spring of 2018, Trump also told White House counsel Donald F. McGahn II he wanted to order the Justice Department to prosecute both Hillary Clinton and James Comey, the former FBI director whom Trump had already fired during an investigation into Russian interference to help Trump in the 2016 US presidential election, according to the New York Times. McGahn had White House lawyers write a memo warning Trump that if he ordered law enforcement to investigate his rivals, he could be impeached.

After the March, 2019 release of the Mueller report, which looked at Russian interference in the 2016 election, Trump also called for federal officials to "investigate the investigators." Bill Barr, Trump's chosen attorney general after Sessions, later appointed special counsel John Durham to do just that.

"He made clear his position that as head of the executive branch, he has both the power and right to direct federal criminal justice enforcement at any targets he chooses; and does not respect the 'independence' of the Attorney General and of US Attorneys," Gordon told USA TODAY in an email.

Trump is a serious threat to democracy.  That cannot be disputed.

Kamala Harris is who I will be voting for.

I'm an Irish-American (Catholic).  A number of people in THE COMMON ILLS community are upset over the way COMMON DREAMS, ZNET and others are 'covering' Kamala -- with nothing but attacks.  I want to speak to that with what I can offer.  As noted many times before, I was a supporter of Rev.  Jesse Jackson both times he ran for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination.  I believed in him (still do) and I believed in the Rainbow PUSH Coalition.

But?

But I saw the Coalition ridiculed and I saw Rev. Jackson ridiculed.  They would not let him be the nominee.  They were fine with backing an embarrassment like Gary Hart.  They were fine with anyone but the reverend.  And despite this he had support.  But they just ignored it.

From that perspective, I don't see any real difference from our 'left' media.  I see the same pot shots from the 'left' aimed at her.  I see the same belittling.  I see the same attacks.

Once again, I am not talking about from the right.

There is a segment of the 'left' that is demented and just will not get on board.  I had hoped that Barack Obama's 2008 and 2012 winning campaigns had changed that.  It appears, however, that the only change was for one specific person.

Do I think Kamala can win?  I think she can and I pray she will.  The thing that has changed is young people.  They are not the idiots that previous generations were.  They're not going to play at racism and pretend it's cute or 'post-ironic' or whatever nonsense some people use to justify it.

I think that's a huge percent of the under 25 voters -- they're too smart for racism.  And I think they'll band with smaller groupings in other generations and that it will be enough to elect Kamala.

She deserves it.  We deserve it.

Why some very sick people claiming to be left are doing their part to elect Donald Trump goes to their racism and I don't have time for them.

The world can't afford a second term of Donald Trump.  In the debate, he lied over and over.  And he lies all the time so it may be hard to be shocked or surprised.  But we should not grow immune to recognizing the damage his lies do.  David Badash reports:

Just days after the Republican nominees for president and vice president promoted and doubled-down on false, debunked and racist claims about immigrants in Springfield, Ohio stealing pet cats and dogs and eating them, that town’s city hall and elementary school were forced to evacuate after a bomb threat targeting multiple locations was received Thursday.

Here's Bryan Heck.

His lies aren't just words.  His lies lead to violence.  He is a threat to democracy and we can defeat him at the ballot box.
