if you've never caught the show before, kerry washington is olivia pope who used to work for the prez of the u.s. (played by tony goldwyn) but quit because the 2 had an affair. now she does p.r. damage control at her own firm.
the show started last season. c.i. gifted me with the 1st season on dvd a few weeks back which is how i finally saw the show. (she told me i'd love it all last season but i never found time to watch.) shonda rhimes created the show and it's - my opinion - the best show she's created.
(she's also created 'private practice' and 'grey's anatomy.')
if you gave a watch last season and liked it but wondered about it's overall theme, it's been revealed.
last night, we finally saw that olivia is part of a secret cabal along with a supreme court judge and the first lady among others.
i was really shocked by that last scene.
i probably shouldn't have been.
a foreign diplomat killed an american, a young woman. and the prez was refusing to demand accountability - he wanted to avoid a foreign crisis.
so the parents became olivia's clients. she staged rallies outside the white house.
the first lady came up to her and told her the rallies were thinning out and that she could help.
she did. she showed up at spoke to the parents, spoke to the press and got the murder back in the news cycle forcing the prez to act.
and that was a solid favor for olivia. and she and the 1st lady do not like each other. the 1st lady knows that she was the prez' mistress. that almost came out last season. instead, the 1st lady pretended she was pregnant for the public and got pregnant.
so there is huge tension between the 2 women.
when the offer came, i knew something was up and this was going to end very interesting.
but i was still surprised. this was a great episode.
let's close with c.i.'s 'Iraq snapshot:'
