"book 'em friday" and "How To Be A Movie Star"; "book 'em friday," and "How To Be A Movie Star II"
the book tonight is on elizabeth taylor. it's titled simply: elizabeth.
j. randy taraborelli is the author.
and it's simple to the point of redundant.
i think the book was left somewhere other than on the page.
i'd never think that elizabeth taylor's life could be made so boring. but he does that, her life is lifeless on the page and the are problems with tenses and it's just a really bad book you should avoid.
which surprised me because i have read taraborrelli before and he's usually a lively writer.
an 80s tv movie (between friends) gets about as much play in the book as do some of elizabeth's classics. it just never works for me. and then you get to the longest epilogue in history. a lot of that stuff should be in the chapters - for example, if he's going to update debbie reynolds by including the tv movie they did together (a great 1, these old broads), that stuff belongs in the book itself.
does he like elizabeth taylor?
frequently he seems bored with her and zooms in on other people (in the narrative, i'm not talking about the epilogue now).
it may just be that her life is too complex, too rich for books now. she's done so many things. but i really thought i would like this book and i really did not.
let's close with c.i.'s 'Iraq snapshot:'
