lucy wrote a frantic e-mail because she's afraid her favorite tv show (harry's law, nbc monday nights) is going to get cancelled. she thinks it's the best show on tv and she wonders if i ever got upset when a show of mine got the axe?
all of my shows used to get the axe.
if i really liked it, it wouldn't stay on long.
it was worse back then because you only had the 3 channels - and maybe an independent uhf 1. and when it was gone, it was gone.
now your show gets cancelled and you can usually still grab a boxed set of all the episodes. back then, if it was pulled, that was it. you might see it in syndication, you might also never see it again.
in the 80s, i really liked square pegs.
i was an adult (and then some) by that time.
i wrongly thought that a show that was so funny and had people like bill murray willing to do guest spots would be on.
instead they gave the show the axe.
that was sad because i loved all the characters - jennifer, vinnie and l.d. muffy tupperman was probably my favorite character. i just loved her. she was always going on about the school's adopted guatamalan child and how 'it behooves me' and 'rough tops eat kool jello.'
'rough tops eat kool jello' is from the episode where muffy and the gang goes on a school trivia show. it stands for: rooselevelt, truman, eisenhower, kennedy johnson.
i remember so many great episodes.
that was probably the last show i really, really got into.
and, if it helps, i think harry's law is a great tv show too.
let's close with c.i.'s 'Iraq snapshot:'
