'scandal' is the most riveting show on tv.
she already can claim credit for abc's blockbuster 'grey's anatomy,' but 'scandal' is a whole other animal. most producers end up aping themselves. dick wolf does thousands of variations on 'law and order' and jerry bruckheimer on 'csi.' shonda creates unique shows.
and 'scandal' has become my favorite show of the season.
it and 'revenge' are my 2 favorites and right now 'scandal' is ahead of 'revenge.' (i'm damn sick of the flashbacks on 'revenge.' let's move forward already.)
"defiance" is the name of the latest episode which aired thursday.
the show stars kerry washington as olivia pope who handles damage control to put it mildly. it's set in d.c. and it's amazing.
olivia is trying to get past her affair with president fitz. fitz learned this episode that olivia was with a senator now. fitz can block him as the new senate majority leader and is tempted (because he still wants olivia) but in the end lets him become the senate majority leader. the way he goes about doing it? it pisses off that texas lobbyist.
he, cyrus (white house chief of staff), olivia, the supreme court judge and the 1st lady are part of a conspiracy. it's looking like the conspiracy put fitz into the white house despite the fact that he did not actually win the vote. whatever it is, the texas lobbyist is pissed. and telling cyrus that there will be hell to pay.
cyrus' husband james meets with david who hands over info about vote rigging. james tells him he's not into conspiracies. david tells him to look into it. james has no interest.
then james goes to the white house for a dinner. fitz starts telling a story and the 1st lady tells him every 1 has heard it. james says he hasn't so fitz continues. he was losing ohio and the polls said he would and then, at the last minute, but this 1 county turned things around.
it's 1 of the counties david had told james about.
so james goes to a university to talk to people about vote rigging. then he goes to that country. he needs the memory card in a voting machine. all of them are missing the memory card. but 1 of the over 140 is missing. it's kept in the high school, the security guard says.
so james gets the card and votes on the machine and votes for fitz' opponent register as votes for fitz.
the county's votes were stolen.
david. he keeps calling abby. he tells her he's going to prove to her that he didn't beat that woman. abby and harrison are doing most of the work on olivia's latest case and harrison can tell that abby is torn. he'll tell olivia later in the episode that he's carried his share of the burden - meaning breaking up abby and david and making it look like david beat up a girlfriend so abby would break up with him (her ex-husband beat her).
when abby finds out the truth, olivia's going to face hell. abby is not going to look the other way on this. she was already off the reservation before this and now?
so she's the loose cannon about to go off.
quinn works for olivia and ended up a client, remember? and we learned suddenly that quinn had no back story.
well quinn was asking huck about how to drug the new client and get him on a plane. and he told her that olivia wouldn't approve it. but quinn keeps pursuing it.
and other things.
then at the end of the episode, she confronts huck. all those questions? she was researching her own disappearance. she was taken on a charted plane which doesn't require the names of passengers. she was given the following drug blah blah blah. and, oh, by the way, the plane is owned by the supreme court judge who is olivia's best friend.
i so did not see that coming. i so did not see quinn going there. i expected abby to do so. i did not know quinn would.
as you can tell, the whole episode was a roller coaster.
and it was great to have fitz back on. it was his 50th birthday so there was a huge gala. and in the limo the 1st lady decided she didn't want to go. fitz told her he'd given up olivia and olivia had some 1 else now and that she (1st lady) wanted this gala so they're going.
because of the 1st lady's concerns, i was thinking that james was going to confront fitz in front of every 1 about the vote theft.
he steps out and he gets shot.
i could not believe it.
i did not see that coming.
i did not see anything in the episode coming.
it was 1 surprise after another.
truly, give it up for the amazing shonda rhimes.
let's close with c.i.'s 'Iraq snapshot:'
