oh she was on a sugar rush and a half.
her grandmother (my mother) sent her valentine cupcakes that arrived this morning (mailed yesterday, granny overnighted them) and she didn't want just 1.
my mother made 1/2 chocolate cupcake (the cake) and 1/2 vanilla. and my daughter had to try 1 of each.
then it was, she had to sample all the icing colors. my mother did the same icing on each cupcake but she used food colors so some were yellow, some were green, some were red, some were purple and 1 was white.
and i was not aware that every time she left the living room (where she and i were) and went to see her daddy (who was in the bedroom) he was giving her a candy each time she asked.
when we called granny to thank her for the delicious cupcakes (6 of which were then gone), she couldn't even stay on the phone she was so hyper. she yelled 'thank you!' and started giggling and then running around the living room.
fortunately my mother is wiser than i am and knew what was going on.
although, as i told her, if she was really all that wise, she wouldn't have sent so many cupcakes unless she was also mean.
(she laughed at that.)
so i got my daughter calm by following mom's advice which was get some milk in her, get some solid food in her, get her drinking some water.
and it appeared to be working.
for a bit.
then she was bouncing off the walls again.
i go into the bedroom to see what is going on in there - i'm thinking flyboy's tickling her or spooking her or doing something to excite her.
he's on the bed reading the files he'd been reading this morning.
i asked why she was so hyper and she comes running in, giggles, and asks, 'candy?'
and my husband unwraps a hershey kiss and tosses it to her and she catches it and that's the little game they'd been playing all morning.
we almost didn't go out to dinner. i offered the baby sitter the chance to back out.
i said, 'she had too much sugar, if you want to bail, that's fine.' but she was fine with it and so we went off on our romantic evening which was a whole hour this year. i'm really bad about being away from her some times. next year, i go 90 minutes, i swear.
i hope everybody had a great valentine's day.
let's close with c.i.'s 'Iraq snapshot:'
