they'd make 24 episodes or so each season and air 1 a day for 24 days. no waiting for a week for the next fix.
tamara e-mailed that she loved the show too and wondered if i knew this was loosely based on alexander dumas' 'the count of monte christo'? yes, but only because c.i. told me that a month or 2 ago when she was telling me how much i would love the show. i told her i hadn't read the book and i haven't.
she told me for months to watch the show and i just didn't. i feel like such an idiot because this is a great show and once i watched 1 episode, i had to watch all the 1s before (we have hulu plus, so that's not a problem).
okay, the show.
last week ended with emily watching a video tape of her father from years ago (he's dead now) stating that charlotte grayson was his daughter.
if you've never watched, emily is really amanda clark. when she was a little girl, her mother was dead (or just not shown?) and she can remember her father and victoria grayson having an affair. they would sneak into the green home and amanda saw them. david clark didn't pick up on that but victoria did.
victoria was married to wealthy powerful conrad grayson.
he forced victoria to turn on david grayson. they framed him for terrorism. conrad grayson brought down a u.s. airplane for some reason (we're still not clear there) and they pinned it on david.
he was arrested when he was innocent. then he was railroaded. meanwhile amanda was taking into foster care and then juvie. and victoria paid people to treat amanda badly.
david clark was rich. he's dead now. when amanda came of age, she got the money and learned that her father was innocent.
in juvie, she shared a cell with a girl named emily. as adults, they switched identities.
emily's out for revenge.
so to ensure that victoria gets nothing from the divorce (she and conrad are divorcing - victoria's idea), emily put the video of david clark saying charlotte grayson was his daughter on a flash drive and had it delivered to conrad.
conrad had just told declan his and charlotte's plan: he'd pay for declan to go off to school with charlotte. if declan could pass the entrance exam, conrad would foot the bills. that's now up in the air and may be over.
conrad and his attorney joined victoria and her attorney (victoria's attorney is really working for emily). as they went over what victoria wanted, conrad turned a laptop so victoria could see. it was the david clark video.
he told her if charlotte was not his - they were doing a test - he would ensure that she (victoria) got nothing, not even his name.
victoria was shaken.
she knew the truth. (david's the father.)
she was also enraged. she knew the video had come from the bad writer's stash. she also guessed that the burning of the house (last week) was to cover up the theft of the tapes.
she demanded to see amanda clark.
meanwhile emily told amanda (remember they switched identies a few years back) that victoria would be coming after her (amanda). she lied and said victoria had burned down the house.
nolan, emily's friend (and once her father's friend) is the only 1 who really knows what's going on.
so amanda goes to victoria's. victoria sets all these traps for her, she really doesn't think that amanda is amanda (and she's right). the whole point, besides to threaten amanda, was to get some dna to test. they compare it to charlotte's.
but, remeber, victoria's attorney is working for emily. so it comes back a match even though it wasn't.
the man amanda killed, who ran security for victoria, victoria said she needed some of his contractors. she sent the man to cozy up to amanda. but she really is in love with jack (who wrongly believes this is the amanda he fell in love with back when he was a kid). so she blew the guy off.
charlotte goes to thank her dad for the declan thing only to hear her dad tell her she needs to move back in with her mother and that he doesn't want them to live together anymore. she's devastated and can't figure out why he's doing this.
charlotte's brother daniel, meanwhile is proposing to emily. in the rain. she accepts.
they go to share the good news with victoria who hates emily.
then he wants to share with his sister.
he can't find her so he finds his father.
his father tells him he'll grow to hate emily the same way he (conrad) hates victoria. he also tells him that his mother is the reason for the divorce.
emily's at home when charlotte comes over crying, looking for daniel. (until last week, he was living at emily's beach house with her.) she sees the ring and is so happy. she tells emily she always wished she'd had a sister. (remember, they are half-sisters though charlotte doesn't know.)
the man who tried to cozy up to amanda? he goes above the bar to where jack and declan live (and where amanda does now) and jack catches him rifling through things (he's got some videotapes - emily planted them there she told nolan this was how she was going to get rid of amanda, frame her for the fire). the man beats up jack, bad. bloodies him up.
nolan goes over to emily's to tell her what happened to jack.
he's very outraged and thinks emily needs to rethink things. he has blood on his clothes from jack but tells her she has jack's blood on her hands.
daniel goes to victoria and asks his mom about what conrad said. with a lot of tears, victoria implies that david clark raped her and that he's charlotte's father.
nolan and emily's talk means she decides to change things. she tells amanda to leave and that it's for jack's safety so amanda does. (also she's afraid that victoria's gunning for her.) she tells nolan that she'll tell daniel the wedding is off.
she's going to rethink her plan and the revenge.
charlotte moved back in with victoria. the only reason i mention it is that it will probably play big next week. it's a minor detail this episode.
so emily goes to break up with daniel.
he says she slipped out early and she says she didn't want to wake him since he got in so late. he tells her that he should have stayed with her and not gone all over last night. she asks about what happened and he tells her that charlotte's not conrad's daughter.
how did that happen?
emily's preparing to break up with him.
but then daniel starts talking about how if david clark were alive, he'd kill him, that david clark raped his mother ...
after he's done with his rant, he asks amanda what she was thinking through and she tells him that she'd decided she wanted a june wedding.
yes, the revenge is back on.
let's close with c.i.'s 'Iraq snapshot:'
