President Obama and Democratic leaders have made it clear they are willing to accept even deeper social spending cuts in order to reach an agreement with congressional Republicans to avert a partial shutdown of the federal government Friday.
Obama and Vice President Joseph Biden held a White House meeting with House Speaker John Boehner on Wednesday evening in an effort to reach a deal with the Republican congressional leader to fund the government for the last six months of fiscal year 2011. As of this writing, no deal had been reached.
At a White House meeting Tuesday, Boehner had reneged on a previous agreement to cut $33 billion and raised the Republicans’ demand to at least $40 billion in spending cuts, while adding a series of right-wing social policies to the budget bill, including restrictions on abortion and environmental regulation.
that's from jerry white's article at wsws. i wonder how many years it will be before we get a democratic president?
my friend t asked me a question and i thought i'd blog about it in case any 1 else was wondering the same thing.
the last 2 weeks, any congressional hearing reporting has been done by c.i. and only c.i. what about kat, ava and wally?
they didn't go. they're in d.c. with c.i. but they are just burned out.
so they're taking some time away from attending hearings. and that's a good thing because you can get burned out.
if that happens, you're no good to any 1.
she manages. somehow.
she always has.
she's been saying for 5 years now that she needs to stop everything and refill the well.
she feels her writing has become less than she would hope. and that if she had a day or 2 off (since she started that site in 2004, she has posted something every day) she would have a fresh look to come back with.
a new way of seeing things.
but she doesn't have that option.
every day she's covering iraq. every day she's got to figure out how to make sense of it. each day she's out there fighting to get the word out.
so she won't be taking any time off. but she knows it's important and will insist others do.
her reporting on congress today? i loved it. i thought her line about republicans not knowing how to say 'no' to sex was hilarious.
let's close with c.i.'s 'Iraq snapshot:'
