as the 70s progressed, she was in another love triange, with phoebe's niece brooke english. she and brooke were vying for tom cuddahy. erica wanted to be a model. she was doing some really cheesy and tacky modeling jobs. but thought she had a career. so even after she and tom married and she told him she wanted kids, she stayed on birth control.
tom was furious when he found out.
he left her.
and that was the end of erica.
that was around 1979 or 1980.
at which point, erica went from being a normal character, to larger than life and lucci became a daytime superstar.
you never really took erica seriously again after she and tom split. there was no reason to. she had become a comic book character.
and maybe the news today that all my children is cancelled (as is 1 life to live) stems from that and from the show insisting on making this comic book character the lead of the show?
the show and erica became pure crap in the last 20 or so years. that's when the 1st female on daytime to have a legal abortion (erica) suddenly didn't. that 1971 abortion? she didn't have it! they harvested the fetus and just forgot to tell her! till years and years later!
that susan lucci played that storyline demonstrated she had no respect for herself or the character she played. it completely altered the dynamics forever for erica.
so i'm not going to miss all my children and am glad la lucci will either have to retire or find another job.
these last years, you'd never have a chance at a jenny & greg, or jesse & angie, or liza. it was too focused on erica and erica was too much of a joke. in other words, the show jumped the shark.
let's close with c.i.'s 'Iraq snapshot:'
